Cookies, analytics and advertising

Server and security logs. Our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare, records standard request data — IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and a timestamp. This is how the site gets served and how abusive traffic gets blocked. It is not optional; a website cannot deliver a page without an IP address to send it to.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read and how they find us. It sets cookies in your browser and assigns your browser a random identifier, then reports to us in aggregate: page views, traffic sources, approximate region, which posts get read. Google processes this data as described in Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website you visit using Google’s browser add-on.

Advertising and remarketing. We advertise our services online, and we use advertising technologies to do it — including cookies, pixels, tags, and similar identifiers placed by us and by our advertising partners. In plain terms: when you visit this website, a small piece of code may tell an advertising platform that a browser visited a particular page. That platform can then show you our ads later, on its own services or on other websites. This is usually called remarketing or retargeting.

Our advertising partners include or may include: Google (Google Ads and the Google Display Network) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram, via the Meta Pixel). We may add other advertising, analytics, or measurement partners. What does not change is the kind of data involved and the purpose: browsing activity on this website, used to show you our advertising and to measure whether it worked. If we ever use your information for a materially different purpose, we will update this policy and say so on this page.

How to stop seeing personalized ads: the cookie banner on this site (decline advertising cookies and we stop setting them on that browser; any already set can be cleared from your browser’s settings); Google My Ad Center; Meta ad preferences; the Network Advertising Initiative and Digital Advertising Alliance opt-outs; and your browser’s own cookie settings and private browsing mode.

Opting out stops ads from being personalized. It does not stop ads from appearing, and it will not break anything on this site.

What we do not do. We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not run session recording or screen-capture tools. We do not buy personal information from data brokers.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site uses three kinds:

KindWhat it doesCan you refuse it?
Strictly necessaryServes the site and keeps it secure. Set by Cloudflare. No — the site cannot work without them
AnalyticsTells us which pages get read. Set by Google Analytics.Yes
AdvertisingLets us show you our ads elsewhere. Set by Google and Meta.Yes

Our banner. When you first visit, a banner tells you these cookies are in use and gives you a way to turn off the analytics and advertising ones. Analytics and advertising cookies are active unless you decline. Strictly necessary cookies are not optional and are not covered by the banner. You can change your mind at any time — the link in our site footer opens your cookie preferences — and your browser’s settings will always override ours.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a request to turn off advertising cookies for that browser, whether or not you have interacted with our banner. The one exception is a choice you make yourself while the signal is on: if you use our banner’s preferences dialog to turn advertising cookies back on for that browser, we will honor that, and we tell you on screen that it overrides the signal.
